Animal Sheltering Nightmare: Breeder SEO! Meet Alexis, a victim of a puppy mill and irresponsible owners!
Imagine a news story about an animal shelter in crisis mode.
Now, look at the online breeder and puppy mill ads spamming the story!
Well guess what, it’s happening!
It’s time to stop fighting a losing battle against those adding to the overpopulation and thumbing their noses at the problem!
Here’s a story that may seem crazy, but it’s typical. Our friend and rescue pal Charlotte gets a call from someone who wants to surrender a three month old dog. Bad enough, right?
When questioned as to where they got the dog from, the answer was “from a breeder”.
Further along, she’s told the breeder is in Missouri. And how did he get here “oh, American Airlines”. Gee, I wonder how they found this pup (Craigslist?).
Still they go on to say that the dogs a purebred with papers (so what!) that turned out to be fake!
Further into the conversation they (almost boasting) say they paid $1,800 for the puppy.
They bought a three month old puppy for $1,800 and already want to get rid of it????
Here’s the kicker, they’re 85 years old buying a puppy that will outlive them by 10 years and are getting rid of it after only days!
Here’s the saddest part of all, from someone in animal welfare for 24 years: I can tell you that NONE of this is at all SURPRISING!
So where do we start? With the TAXBREEDERS.COM proposal, out of state annual registration fees would be $5,000.
If they don’t pay (they won’t) they can’t advertise (penalties are for accepting ads from unregistered sellers without a corresponding sales tax number).
With 10-15 million classified ads annually, the above story repeats itself in whole or in parts countless times every single day.
If you don’t see it as an epidemic, you my friends, have missed the boat.
